'American Crime Story' Renewed for a Third Season, Will Focus on the Versace Murder

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story proved the biggest hit of the year, with a mix of intelligent writing, brilliant performances and superb set design to earn itself 10 Emmy's and a sequel season set to detail Hurricane Katrina's wake.

But while season 2 is not yet near reaching our screens, series creator Ryan Murphy has ensured fans that the series is not going anywhere. A third season has been confirmed, and will detail the murder of Gianni Versace.

Versace/Cunanan will be a 10-episode examination of the shocking murder of the celebrated fashion designer, shot to death in 1997 by Andrew Cunanan on the from steps of his opulent Versace mansion in Miami.

Much like the first season, this one will take its inspiration from a book, this time Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth .It will film nearly concurrently with Katrina in early 2017. Murphy will direct the pilot episode and most of the behind-the-scenes team looks set to return.

Deadline reports that an A-list actress is in negotiations to play Versace's sister Donatella Versace, who plays a key role in the story and took over the house after her brother's death. No other news is known at this point regarding the series.

Nevertheless, it's an exciting time to be a fan of the anthology formula, and FX networks is a proven big player in the TV game at this point, having had a dominant year with other shows like Fargo continuing to steam ahead.
