'Batman v Superman' Expected to Fall Short of Warner Bros.' Earnings for 'Man of Steel'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell After its record-breaking opening weekend for DC properties and Warner Bros. second highest debut ever, the film quickly began falling, with a record high drop of 69% in its second weekend.

Warner Bros. has, to counter the disappointing numbers that suggest the film mightn't even hit a billion dollars, added two untitled DC films to their schedule, a show of faith in a property that has no reason to fail.

Now, a new report options that Batman v Superman may not even reach the same profit margins as Man of Steel, which had far less name recognition to kickstart its campaign. The report comes from Bloomberg, claiming that its success does not mean it has not reached the highs the studio expected.

"Batman v Superman, one of the most expensive films ever made, is on pace to prduce a $278 million profit for Warner Bros. once home video, TV and merchandise proceeds are tallied, according to SNL Kagananalyst Wade Holden. That's less than the estimated $300 million the studio earned from Man of Steel."

Considering the film is intended to launch the DC universe, re-introduce Batman, and features the titular fight that Warner Bros. expected would put people in seats long after opening night, the equation is not good. Perhaps it'll be a learning curve for the studio, or the world might just soften up on this gritty take on comic book properties.
