Cate Blanchett and Aaron Sorkin are Bringing 'Lucy and Desi' to Amazon Studios
Amazon Studios acquired the rights to Sorkin's biopic, produced by Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr.—the children of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz—alongside the production company Escape Artists.
Aaron Sorkin's return to television will examine the life and times of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and their work together on I Love Lucy and The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour. Deadline was first to report Amazon Studios acquired the rights to Sorkin's scripted drama based on the memoirs written by both Ball and Arnaz. Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett is attached to play TV’s pioneering star Lucille Ball and Javier Bardem is being considered for the role of Desi Arnaz.
2017 also marks the directorial debut for Sorkin with Molly's Game - starring Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom, a cocktail waitress who rises through the social circuit to became an organizer of underground poker games for the Hollywood elite. Sorkin is currently working on a live production adaptation of his 1992 script A Few Good Men which is scheduled for 2018 on NBC.
