'Doctor Strange' Director Teases Sequel Ideas

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Director Scott Derrickson has fallen in love with Doctor Strange, which is apparent. The filmmaker's addition to the MCU is receiving solid reviews, and Derrickson is already looking to the future. He spoke with IGN on what may be next for the character.

He told the site that he “really like[s] the character of Nightmare and the concept that the Nightmare Realm is a dimension. That’s early – that’s like the first Strange tale. I think that’s in the introductory episode of Doctor Strange, and I always loved that,” he continued.

The villain was not used in the solo film for a specific reason. “We decided not to do that because that’s a bit of a complex idea to try to introduce everything we do introduce and introduce the idea of nightmares themselves as being a dimension. I hope somewhere down the line we do get to explore that because I think that’s super cool concept.”

Speaking with Den of Geek, Derrickson expanded on his interest in villains. "What made The Dark Knight so great was that the origin story of Batman had been well-told, and then it was time to bring in a villain where you really got to go deep,” he said.

“And not just the Joker, also Two-Face. It was a more visceral experience, I'd love to be able to do that for Doctor Strange."
