Female Director Comes on Board 'Sherlock' for the First Time

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Filming has commenced for Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's fourth go-around in Sherlock, and for the first time a woman is getting behind the camera and taking the reigns.

The first of the three feature-length episodes will be directed by Rachel Talalay, whose credits date back 25 years of directing, producing, and professing in film and television. She's directed various projects from episodes of Doctor Who to The Flash.

Season four is set to bring Sherlock Holmes back to British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife become parents for the first time. Cumberbatch voiced excitement about returning to the series, despite having literally just completed filming on Doctor Strange.
