HBO Hoping for Another Season of 'The Night Of'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell HBO's The Night Of was billed as a miniseries from the beginning, and many are content with its ending. HBO, however, is not. Given the success of the series, it's small wonder the network is weighing sequel potential for a second season.

HBO president of programming Casey Bloys spoke with Variety quite candidly, stating that he "absolutely" wants another season.

"The only issue with doing another season is for them to come up with an idea that excites them. Steve [Zaillian] and Richard [Price] are talking and sharing ideas. I think it’ll be a longer process, probably. Both of them take their time and will only do something they’re really passionate and excited about. They’re not going to do another season just to do another season."

Zaillian has said previously that they haven't ruled out a second year. “We’re thinking about it and if we come up with something we all feel is worthy of doing, we’ll do it." It was back in August when he said that "this was designed as a stand-alone piece."

It's based on a British anthology series, which ran for two seasons and followed a different tale in each. I'm a big fan of the format and it would be a joy to see another member of that particular sub-category, shared with the likes of Fargo and True Detective.
