'Jurassic World' Sequel Moves Ahead with Indie Director at the Helm
Jurassic World became the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time with over $1.6 billion at the box office. Universal announced a release date for the sequel just a month after the film arrived in theaters, and now the director for the film has been revealed.
Colin Trevorrow and producer Frank Marshall revealed on Twitter that Juan Antonio Bayona will direct Jurassic World 2. Bayona has directed just two films prior to the upcoming blockbuster, the 2007 Spanish mystery/thriller The Orphanage, and 2012 disaster film The Impossible. He has also directed two episodes of Penny Dreadful.
While the sequel retains its stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, Bayona will be entering his first franchise at the helm. Trevorrow and co-writer Derek Connolly will pen the script, and Trevorrow will executive produce alongside Steven Spielberg.
The sequel will arrive June 22, 2018.
