Martin Scorsese's 'The Irishman' is finally going to happen

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Martin Scorese has been trying to make a new mobster film since 2010, which comes as something of a shock. With Robert De Niro attached to star, nobody has been in any hurry to make this happen.

A deal has finally been struck that will see the film hit the big screen. Scorsese and De Niro have clearly never let the project slip from their list of priorities, having been in the pipeline for six years now. THR is reporting that STX Entertainment has won the foreign distribution rights for the film, a deal which reportedly happened during the Cannes Film Festival.

Al Pacino is also attached to the film, though Joe Pesci has reportedly declined to appear as part of the trifecta. Various sources are claiming that Pesci has turned down the role multiple times, though Scorsese still believes he can convince the star to join the picture.

Despite this, two huge names are headlining the film, and bidding wars are clearly starting to take place. Can Scorsese top The Departed with this latest mob-focused drama?
