Nicolas Winding Refn Reveals he Turned Down an Offer to Direct 'Spectre'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Nicolas Winding Refn has revealed that he was approached to direct last year's James Bond outing, Spectre, but ultimately refused the offer.

Speaking with the Telegraph, Refn said that Eon Productions had approached him on taking over prior to Sam Mendes signing on to continue his work from Skyfall.

“Well, I don’t know yet,” Refn responded when asked if his upcoming spy thriller “The Avenging Silence” will be his version of a Bond film. “I just know this way I can do whatever I want, and that outweighs any money anyone can give me.”

Refn's 2011 film Drive arguably remains his best, though The Neon Demon has been out since June 24 and has earned $1.1 million at the box office.
