Toy Story 4 will hit theatres in June 2017

In an announcement, the CEO of Disney Bob Iger has revealed that Pixar will release Toy Story 4 on the 16th June 2017. John Lasseter will return to direct “a new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the 'Toy Story' gang.” Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are writing the script.

It has been rumoured for some time that a fourth Toy Story movie was possibly in development. Even Tom Hanks dropped a hint that it may be in the works earlier this year, so this news of a release date is nothing surprising.

John Lasseter said, "We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself."

As for story, this could be interesting. As time goes on— no doubt— rumours will begin circulating as to what the narrative will focus on. As for die-hard fans who believe the third movie finished perfectly; they will most likely have a lot to moan about regarding this news. Just remember this, Toy Story is Pixar's gold standard. The movie is almost three years away and the short movies/TV specials Toy Story have produced, have all developed the story along. Pixar don't rush things. They would only announce this fourth movie if they are completely satisfied with the story they have and that it fits perfectly alongside the previous three. Trust us, believe every word Lasseter says.
