about

Monsters vs. Aliens and Hannah Montana The Movie fight at the box office.

I’m sure Seth Rogen will have many hits in the future, but Observe and Report opened almost just as bad as Zack and Miri last year. Although he’s pretty big, he had to stand in the shadow of Miley Cyrus.

Ok, Hannah Montana topped in the US. Expected, after the numbers we saw on Saturday. But what happened overseas? Well, Fast and Furious did even better than its first week. At the third place, Knowing is hanging in there with $11 million. Monsters vs. Aliens made a good $16.5 million. And Fast and Furious made an amazing $46.5 million. The best weekend overseas in 2009 yet.

In the US, Fast and Furious did pretty good as well. It made $28.8 million and now stands at a total of $209 million worldwide after less than two weeks. Monsters vs. Aliens made $22 million in the US and now stands at a good $233.7 million. If the 3-D movie keeps the theaters filled for a couple more weeks, it’ll definitely be a money maker. And last, but not least, Hannah Montana topped with $34 million during the Easter weekend.

And then the disappointing total of Observe and Report, just $11.2 million. The director of Observe and Report doesn’t like the comparison with Kevin James’ Paul Blart: Mall Cop, but man, did that movie make a shitload more money.

Next week, some low profile movies like 17 Again, State of Play and Crank 2. I will be out next weekend, so I probably won’t be able to update. But I’ll be back with the box office update as soon as possible.
