Oscars Producer Gives Reason Why They Tried To Cut Alejandro Iñárritu's Speech

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong At the 88th Academy Awards this past Sunday, director Alejandro G. Inarritu won Best Director for the second year in a row, and joined an elite list of directors to win the award for a third time. However, his historic acceptance speech didn't go down without a hitch.

This key moment in Oscars history ended up becoming a rather embarrassing one for the shows producers who tried to cue Inarritu off the stage before he had finished his speech at the poignant moment he was talking about his path to this moment in his career. The Revenant director, thankfully, ignored their cue and finished his speech.

“I hadn’t even used all my time when they started to play me off,” he told the press backstage, apparently agitated by the whole ordeal. Former Academy President Hawk Koch was also said to be angry about the treatment Iñárritu received, while a current Governor also agreed it was something they needed to review.

Oscars producer, Reginald Hudlin, was pleased with how the show went overall, but said, “it was just one mistake in a three and a half hour show,” regarding their treatment of Inarritu. In all honesty, it was the stand-out moment of the show that ticked off a lot of viewers — a big historic moment that was marred by stupid time restraints on significant awards.
