Disney's Live Action 'The Little Mermaid' Will Have Music From Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken
The Walt Disney Company is known for many things; theme parks, animation, and fairy tales to name a few. Disney also has been known for creating stellar music since its very beginning. It looks like that will be continuing with the recent news.
Is Disney turning Lin-Manuel Miranda to the "Disney" side? It sure seems like it as he is working on projects such as Moana and Mary Poppins Returns. Miranda even worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Now Disney has tapped the creator of Hamilton to be paired with iconic songwriter Alan Menken for Disney's live action remake of The Little Mermaid. Miranda and Menken will be orchestrating around the pre-existing songs from the 1989 Disney animated classic. Menken won two Oscars for The Little Mermaid and he shared Best Song with Disney Legend Howard Ashman.
Lin-Manuel Miranda will also be producing the film alongside Marc Platt. Miranda has a soft spot for The Little Mermaid. He even named his son after the orchestrating crab Sebastian.
This further improves the relationship between The Walt Disney Company and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The live action Little Mermaid is still in development. Once more details become available Cultjer will report them.
