Marvel's 'Runaways' Gets A TV Series at Hulu
Marvel's TV universe is once again expanding with Hulu. The streaming service has ordered the critically acclaimed comic series The Runaways for series.
The project comes from Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Marvel Television, and ABC Signature. Brian K. Vaughan (who has a great career as a comic book writer) along with Adrian Alphona created Marvel's Runaways. The comic book series is about a diverse group of teenagers who find out their parents are a part of an evil crime organization. The organization is called The Pride, which is a criminal group that consists of dark wizards, time-travelers, mob bosses, aliens, and a mad scientist.
Schwartz commented on the series. “I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life.”
Runaways debuted in 2003 and Marvel Comics canceled the series. It then was brought back by popular demand in 2004. The TV adaption is coming from Schwartz and Savage who had conversations with Marvel Television for over the past year. Marvel exec’s said they knew Runaways would be a great series to adapt they just finally found the right people. In the past it was going to be a part of the MCU on the big screen.
Marvel’s Runaways supposedly will get a full season order from Hulu. Schwartz and Savage will executive produce the show also. Awhile back I wrote about Marvel's Cinematic Universe's Phase Four and I included The Runaways. You can check that out here. I’m surprised Netflix didn’t pick up this series. Maybe it’s too fun-loving and light-hearted? Who knows, but Runaways fans rejoice your finally getting a TV series! The story is really awesome and now it forces me to get Hulu.
